We had heard there were salmon swimming upstream to spawn, but it wasn't until we actually saw it that we believed it. I was sitting on a rock in the middle of the ravine, when Rich noticed something wiggling up beside my boot.
A split second later, I hauled ass and got out of there. One, because my camera. I can't risk drowning another one, and two, because this thing was nearly a meter long and built solid. I was kind of scared.
Before we knew it, the monster of a fish decided to come up on to the rocks, splashing up frigid water all over the place. Take note of Rich's fish "fighting" stick, haha.
Just kidding, we didn't fight it.
It would have won.
We did, however decide to use the stick to help it (at least half way) back into the water. I stood at a distance.
Some salmon weren't so lucky. While I understand they swim upstream to spawn and die, a couple met death early and had become dinner for the many critters in the area. It smelled bad and exactly as you'd think it would. Rotting fish!
We headed home after that. I almost barfed, but I had to show you. You're welcome.
