Lemon Tree Grown From Seed

My pink lemon tree from last year died over the winter, because I neglected to bring it inside. Since Home Depot has an amazing tree guarantee, I was able to bring the sad and brittle shell of a plant back for a refund. Yep, even if it was my fault. It's a little early in the year and they don't have any in stock yet for me to buy a replacement, so I've been taking care of this little guy.

I planted the seed (I peeled off the outer skin, for faster germination) of a regular old lemon from the grocery store, stuck it in some moist soil and it grew. It probably won't fruit, but the leaves are slightly citrus scented and it's been an extremely easy plant to care for. Just a little spritz of water here and there, as well as a good amount of sunlight does the job.

I'm keeping this one forever indoors.

I recently gave it a small dose of Jobe's Fruit & Citrus Fertilizer and the plant has taken off, never been happier. The spikes are hard as rocks, so in order to get little pebble sized pieces, I just ended up shattering bits on the driveway like a maniac. 

Perhaps I'll start other little citrus seedlings. Lime, clementine, meyer lemon, kumquat, key lime...
It'll be YEARS until they bear fruit, if they bear fruit, and if they even survive that long, but they make pretty indoor greenery so I don't think I'll mind. It's super easy to do, so GO PLANT ONE NOW!
