Dining Out: Pho Bistro

My family and I had a casual dinner out for my brother's birthday and he chose to go to Pho Bistro. It's a nice little restaurant with an appealing interior. The service was quick, food was good and fresh.

We ordered a few appetizers: green mango salad, which had sliced mangoes/peppers/red onion on a bed of spring mix drizzled with a light vinaigrette. It was garnished with finely julienned lime leaves and a few roasted cashews which was a nice touch. The portion was on the small side, but the flavours were there.

The fried spring rolls were really good. They had lots of filling and came to our table piping hot and super crispy.

To share, we ordered a large bowl of pho noodles with sliced beef. I liked that the broth wasn't greasy and while it could have been deeper in flavour, I didn't really mind that it was in a lighter, more refreshing soup.

The pad thai (it's a fusion restaraunt) was okaaaay...I mean I wasn't expecting much. The noodles were a little soggy and over sauced, the flavour pretty sweet. I doubt the sauce was made with tamarind, but regardless of what I just wrote, we ate the whole thing.

It's sometimes nice to have un-authentic Thai food, like eating American Chinese food; it's good!

We also shared a grilled lemongrass beef noodle salad. This was a huge hit. Semi-charred beef slices, loads of flavour, mixed into a mound of chilled rice noodles, green salad, ground roasted peanuts and Nuoc cham sauce!

Along side our various noodle dishes, we also ordered a bowl of vegetarian tom yum soup. I had a small portion, but it wasn't delicious. I've had better from a jar. I will say though, that they weren't skimping on the tofu.

& of course, Little Miss waiting for cake, but actually just for the whipped cream.

Overall, we had a nice little dinner. The prices were great- the whole meal came to under $50 with tax and tip included, for four people and the portions were generous for the most part. I would totally go dine there again.
