Dining Out: India's Taste

Rich and I both love Indian food, so for our birthdays (back in July) we decided to dine out at the same place...twice! India's Taste is an all day buffet style restaurant and it's always busy- especially on weekends where large groups and lots of families go to eat. We both like to keep it fairly casual when it comes to birthday dinners and with it being a buffet, there always ends up being a few vegan varieties of dishes for Rich to choose from. I also like being able to try different curries and having the option of salads, unlimited naan bread, desserts and trying things I normally wouldn't ordering à la carte.

I'll try to remember what we had- all I know is that it was delicious and I wanted more.
Fried Lentil balls in yogurt with a mix of different sauces, spices and pickles
Butter chicken, basmati rice, pakroa, vegetable curry with peas, veggie samosa and goat curry
Channa masala (chickpea curry), stewed eggplant, curried okra, mixed veg curry
These were the vegan friendly dishes available that evening.
Chicken tikka masala, chicken curry, pakora, tandoori chicken and basmati rice
Mix up of various stews and curries. The green spinach one was my least favourite, but everything else was great!
Fresh naan from the tandoori- buttered
Mix up of various stews and curries. Papadums in the back/salad with feta
Mix up of various stews and curries. Those eggplants are SO good.
Fresh fruit: grapes, cantaloupe, pineapple and watermelon
Gulab jamun- basically Indian donuts, made with milk and soaked in a rose and cardamom infused sugar syrup.
Jalebi- piped dough that's deep fried, similar to funnel cakes but way smaller. Soaked in saffron sugar syrup.
Mango ice cream
Everything we ate at India's Taste was delicious, save for the saag paneer (the green baby food looking one) which just didn't do it for me. I love their tandoori chicken, goat curries, eggplant curry, chicken tikka masala and butter chicken just to name a few. Rich always enjoys their channa masala (chick pea curry). We always ask one of their staff to point out which dishes are vegan-dairy/butter/meat/egg/honey free and they are always friendly and accommodating. They'll even head to the back, where there is an open kitchen to double check with the chef, who by the way stands by the tandoori oven slapping around plush dough to make into fresh naan. The made to order naan bread is served slathered in butter/ghee, but they will happily serve it plain if requested.

I like that we can have a complete meal with salads, appetizers, mains, fresh fruits and desserts and also be able to try new things. Prices are decent, weekend dinner was $15.99/adult. Given the variety, service and cleaniness of the place, I think it's worth it. It's very much a hole in the wall kind of restaurant located in a commercial area, which might be off putting but I can assure you they serve good food.
