Have you seen the commercials for Maggi So Juicy seasoning packets? You basically bake food in a plastic bag with seasonings sprinkled inside along side the meat and an hour or so later, dinner is served. I was always taught that heating food in plastic is a huge no-no, so this concept kind of erked me. Apparently this plastic bag is made to be heated safely up to a certain temperature and I happened to stumble upon a good deal for them, so I gave it a go.
The flavour I decided to try was the BBQ Rib flvaour.
The steps are simple. Cut ribs, put in bag, pour in the seasoning, tie the bag and smush it all together before baking in the oven. Clean up was super easy, which was a huge bonus, but the flavour was all salt. There was no BBQ flavour in there at all. No smokiness, no sweetness, or tang. A huge disappointment for sure. I like the concept (the bag fortunately did not melt or do anything funny), but this particular flavour needs some serious working on. I liked that the ribs were moist, but not dripping in juices and that it had a nice exterior colour. That's about it though.
If I were to use it again, I would probably have to doctor it up a fair bit to balance the flavours out. Hopefully the mixes for chicken will be better!
