We all do laundry; while some of us love it or tolerate it for the sake of having clean clothes, some of us think it a tedious chore and would rather buy new clothes than to have to wash them. I actually happen to enjoy doing laundry! I don't like washing dishes (probably because I don't have a dish washing machine), but I do have a laundry machine and to me, it's relaxing.
I am not brand loyal by any means in terms of laundry detergent. If it's on sale and/or I have a coupon and it happens to cost $2.00/bottle or less, I buy it! I do however, lean towards brand names though. Luckily most big manufacturers provide high value coupons, so it works out in my favour.
Purex recently sent me a complimentary bottle of their new Purex plus OXI with Zout laundry detergent to review, along with a few coupons to share with friends and family. An average sized bottle (33 loads, 1.77L), will cost about $6.00 - $7.00 at major retailers.
The first thing I did when I opened up the package was unscrew the top so I could take a sniff. The scent (called fresh morning burst) is refreshing and not overpowering. It simply smells clean. Nothing too floral or masculine, it's a pleasant scent that I wouldn't mind have lingering around.
As with most liquid laundry detergent's Purex Plus OXI with Zout is a medium transparent blue in colour, presumably to whiten whites a little better. It has a good viscosity, a smart pouring spout/detergent catcher and marked guide lines on the cap for proper measuring.
So, is this detergent worth switching for? Yes, if you can catch it on sale. Would I pay regular price for it? Probably not. The product wasn't outstanding and I wouldn't pay full price for it. It works well in pre-treating stains and I found that it removes any fresh foundation/make up marks on clothing in one wash after I've pre-treated it. But it doesn't get out stains 100% made from yellow mustard, raspberries and grape juice in one wash- even after pre-treating. To me, it works as well as any other detergent, so while I won't be running out of the house to buy Purex's newest laundry detergent, I would still pick it up if it was the right price. I like that the scent lingers lightly on dried clothing and there haven't been any allergic reactions to it.
For those with sensitive skin, Purex Plus OXI also comes in a Free & Clear variety. It is not fragrance free, but it is dye free and contains no perfumes. It is also hypoallergenic and dermatologist-tested.
As mentioned above, this product was provided to me for consideration. I was not compensated for this review
and opinions are my own.
